Deedee's House truly is a home from home for your child, providing stimulating activities in a nurturing environment. It has a warm, open plan living area with lots of space for the children to learn and play. We have small world play, role play, exploration and discovery, construction and activity toys, a cosy reading den and much more! There is also a large, spacious kitchen which is perfect for eating, baking, messy play and creative activities, of which there are plenty to take part in! Every day at Deedee's house also includes song time and story time.
Also on the ground floor level is a quiet, comfortable bedroom where the children are able to take their naps, with babies sleeping in a secure travel cot and toddlers/older children on special sleep mats, listened to with an Angelcare baby monitor and regularly checked in person.
The secure garden is split across three levels, with a lawn area and paved areas for outdoor fun and games. The garden is also home to the very popular giant chalkboard which can be seen from indoors enabling the children to admire their latest masterpieces! We are very lucky that the garden also backs on to a field, giving us an amazing view of the changing crops, horses and the occasional tractor or combine harvester!
Children will go outside every day, (unless there is a severe weather warning in place!), whether it be in the garden, out for a walk or somewhere further afield such as the park, beach or farm. This not only provides them with beneficial fresh air, but also enables them to explore different surroundings and enjoy a variety of activities, extending their learning opportunities. We also attend local toddler groups which gives the children the opportunity to play in a larger group and further develop their social skills.

I usually set loose 'topics' which our activities may be based around. These will vary depending on the children's stage of development as well as their interests, for example: trains, tractors, superheroes, dinosaurs, unicorns etc. I also try to do activities linked with special days/times of year, e.g. Christmas/Diwali/ Chinese New Year/ Easter. These could be art/craft activities, baking or sensory/messy play activities.
I also like to incorporate the natural world into the children's learning as much as possible, so as well as learning about the seasons and changes over time (e.g. trees), we go on walks in local parks, woodland, fields and beach where we collect natural 'treasures' which we then use in activities to enhance the children's learning. For example, when learning colours, we went on a colour hunt at a park and painted pebbles which we had collected from the beach. When learning about mini-beasts, we made spiders from conkers we had collected. We have painted using feathers, twigs, leaves and wild flowers. We have used acorns and pinecones with our playdough to create and explore different textures. We have created beautiful suncatchers from autumn leaves....

How to find Deedee's House
Deedee's House is based in Portslade/Mile Oak, just a 2 minute drive from the A27 bypass, making it an ideal location if you need to commute. It is directly on the 1/1A bus route, with the 6 also stopping nearby, making us easy to get to for families in Portslade, Brighton, Hove, Hangleton and Fishersgate.
Mile Oak Primary school is only a 5 minute walk away and I offer drop offs and pick-ups from there too.
I am also lucky to be within walking distance of Mile Oak Farm as well as several parks and a library, all of which we visit regularly.
