A day at Deedee's House ...
My aim at Deedee’s House is to provide a ‘home from home’ setting for the children in my care, but even at home children need some sort of routine so that they understand the pattern of how their day will run. A routine can help children to feel safe and secure. Therefore, although activities will be based around children’s individual needs, there will be a loose structure that will be followed to ensure that older children get to school on time, and that the younger children get to socialise at events outside my home such as toddler groups. It also allows dedicated ‘quiet’ time, including stories, to ensure that children are well rested in order to stay healthy and enjoy themselves more!
My daily routine is very much dependent on the age of the children I am caring for. I understand that children need to be treated as individuals and their needs will always come first. If babies/younger children need to nap/feed during a planned activity, I will always re-adjust the timings wherever possible to ensure that they do not completely miss out on that particular experience.
Free play and focus activities can both be either indoors or outdoors. Weather permitting, I will ensure that children go outside at least once a day. This could be for a planned activity, free play in the garden, a visit to the park, for a walk or on a planned outing.
I like to involve the children in choosing activities and try to plan focus activities which meet their interests as well as their developmental needs. This of course makes for a different adventure every day! Below is a ‘typical’ routine.
